Biography

Rhonda L. Jones is the founder of Chez Moi which is a home-based specialty bakery with dessert food truck in Durham, NC. It all started on a cruise to the Grand Cayman & Cozumel.  After bringing back a few bottles of rum and having always baked for family and friends, she decided to try a rum cake.  Her passion for baking started early in life with an EZ Bake Oven! Her love for baking began by helping her mother bake and her passion for business came from her entrepreneurial father.

The first several years of Chez Moi was only Thanksgiving & Christmas as Rhonda worked a full time job and felt this was just a hobby. During this time, she sold to Southern Season in Chapel Hill for awhile, began to ship cakes across the country and local coffeehouse Cocoa Cinnamon began to sell her cakes by the slice.

March 23, 2013 Rhonda launched a dessert food truck while still working full time which offered rum cake ice cream cakewiches, lemon cake and panna cotta in addition to the rum cake. She worked 40 hours a week Mon – Thurs while taking the truck out on the weekend.

In Feb 2015, she won 1 of 102 spots in the SCORE / Sam’s Club Championship and March 2015, she was found on Twitter by a TV producer working on a national documentary for PBS called A Few Great Bakeries (aired August 2015). She knew it was time to resign from her full time job and take that leap of faith. She resigned June 2015 from a company she was with 8 1/2 years and goes back twice a month with the dessert truck to provide Afternoon Dessert Breaks.

Rhonda is launching a new truck March 2017 with plans for having a Brown Sugar Vanilla Rum Sauce bottled and looking forward to Chez Moi’s growth!
